Flip 7: the quick little game to have in your pocket
Flip 7 is the perfect party game to bring out with family: simple, quick, and full of suspense. Tested with a 7-year-old, it works just as well at home as it does on the go.

Lately, in the evenings before bedtime, we play a game or two of board games with our 7-year-old daughter.
Since we have so much fun together, I wanted to share hereour little gems of everyday life.
In this series, I talk about those games we pull out without thinking:quick, simple, effective, and especially perfect for a bonding moment with family.
But there’s also another category that I really enjoy: party games.
And clearly,Flip 7is one of them.
The concept: simple, quick... but not so easy
Flip 7is a card game based on a very simple principle:
flip cards one by one... without ever landing on a duplicate.
On each turn, you choose:
- either you stop and secure your points
- or you continue and risk losing everything
Said like that, it seems simple.
But in practice, it quickly becomes a little game ofrisk-taking and tension, where each card flipped raises the stakes.
You get a little "casino" feeling as you ask for an extra card each turn, hoping to land on the right one.
Composition and functioning
The game consists of a certain number ofcards ranging from 0 to 12, as well as special cards.
For the number cards, in the deck, there are as many cards as the indicated value:
- 1 card of 1
- 2 cards of 2
- …
- up to 12 cards of 12
For the special cards, there are two categories:
- cards that add points if you survive until the end of the round
- action cards
Among the action cards:
- Stop: which you give to an opponent who is a bit too advanced to stop them in their tracks
- Second chance: which you can keep and play if, unfortunately, you draw a card that you already have
- Three in a row: which you give to an opponent to force them to draw 3 cards at once

A complete game is played until reaching a total of200 points.
In each round, the dealer distributes the cards. Each player then has two options:“again”or“stop”.
As soon as a player draws a card they already have, they are eliminated from the round and score no points.
The round ends when a player has drawn7 different cardsor if all players have decided to stop.
Once the round is over, points are tallied and the game restarts until reaching 200 points.
If a player manages to draw 7 different cards, the round ends immediately and they receive15 additional points.
Why it works so well
What surprised me about Flip 7 is how quicklyit grabs your attention.
- The rules are instant.In a minute, it's understood.
- There's no complicated reading.Just numbers,
- The suspense is constant. Each card turned over becomes an important moment.
And above all, there’s that little aspect:
“Come on, just one more card…”
…which almost always ends badly
My final feeling
Where Flip 7 really stands out is in itsportable party game aspect.
No need for a perfect table, no need for equipment: just a simple deck of cards.
And that’s enough to start a game.
It’s typically the game:
- that you take on vacation
- that you bring out at friends' houses
- or that you suggest quickly without “motivating” others
And often, it grabs everyone's attention very quickly.
